Existing and Emerging Not-for-Profits
-
Equity Audit and Policy Review
Review of governance structures and policies for not-for-profit corporations to assess how anti-racist and equity-promoting they are. We apply an accessible and inclusive stakeholder and community engagement approach when conducting equity audits.
-
Equity Training for Board
We provide education for Board members to learn about their duties, liabilities, and due diligence. Moreover, current governance models transcend outdated versions where all governance activity is perceived as sitting with the Board alone; let us share or co-design creative, equitable governance tools and processes with you.
-
Equitable Organization Change
We help all kinds of organizations become more equitable, ethical, effective, and representative of the communities they serve. We will walk you through the stages of listening, visioning, mapping resources, planning, training, implementing, and evaluating to achieve your desired outcome.
-
Contract and Governing Documents
We enjoy drafting and creating articles of incorporation and plain language by-laws that encourage transparency, accountability, and member engagement. Visuals and infographics can be incorporated into your governing documents to enhance comprehension across languages and varying levels of English literacy. Similarly, we create nuanced, clear confidentiality, employment, and independent contractor agreements customized for your sector's needs.
-
Federal and Provincial Corporate Compliance
If you are seeking to incorporate your emerging organization, we can help you with that. For existing organizations, the Ontario Not-For-Profit Corporations Act (ONCA) was just amended in October 2021, so it is a good time to review your documents. All not-for-profit organizations must review their articles and by-laws and amend them to comply with ONCA before October 2024. Federal distributing corporations must also report on various diversity indicators under Canada Business Corporations Act.
“I am always talking about how do we become trauma-informed...to look at ways in which we can bring emotional intelligence into the spaces we work in. Why? Because when I went to law school...no one ever talked to me about vulnerability or empathy or humility or trauma, and so I was prepared to work with people's legal issues but not much else...and then I realized…those things are just intertwined. Law is emotional. We just need to accept that.”
